Set up google analytics to exclude myself

Hi,

I was searching for a way to exclude myself from the numbers in Google Analytics.  I realized when looking at the code that if you are an administrator, a cookie should be set with the value "Administrators". I did a search here for "analytics AND administrators" but that did not turn up anything relevant.

I see in analytics that this value is properly set. However, I cannot seem to make the filter work to exclude those from the results.

Here is how I set the filter up in analytics:

Filter Name: Administrators

Filter Type: Custom Filter

Exclude

Filter Field: User Defined

Filter Pattern: Administrators

Case Sensitive: No

What am I doing wrong?

Re: Set up google analytics to exclude administrator

I found this in the Google Analytics help:

"When a filter is created in your profile, it's immediately applied to new data coming into your account. A profile's filters are applied to raw visitor data as the data is processed into the database. New filters will not affect historical data, and we're not able to reprocess your old data through the new filter."

So I cannot really test this, I have to wait until tomorrow before todays numbers will be included and only then can I see if it works or not :s

Have I told you I really hate GA?

Re: Set up google analytics to exclude administrator

Actually it is "almost" real time, though it is not obvious. You can see todays data if you set the end date to today. Google Analytics is very powerful but there is a lot to learn to get the most out of it. I'm only scratching the surface of what it can do myself because there is so much of it I have not learned yet.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Set up google analytics to exclude administrator

I really need to delve much deeper in GA, I do feel though that some simple things are way too complicated...
