Captcha Problems

Downloaded the lastest off the source tree and I'm getting this now:

Re: Captcha Problems

Hi,

Are you experiencing an error in the browser or just seeing this in the logs?

Steps to produce the error?

Best,

Joe

Re: Captcha Problems

User sees no captcha.

Log has the information I posted.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. To reproduce this:

  1. configure mojo to use Subkismet captcha
  2. make a contact form
  3. hit the contact form and refresh the page a couple of times.

Re: Captcha Problems

Any other clues?

Does it happen in all browsers or a particular browser?

Can you produce the problem on demo.mojoportal.com?

Re: Captcha Problems

Sorry it takes so long to get back to this ...

I haven't been able to repro this on demo.mojoportal.com NOR can I repro this under cassini on my win 7 workstation. The server on which the site is running though is server 2008 r2 but the site is in classic mode. see: http://www.pack881.com

Any ideas?

Re: Captcha Problems

Hi Joe, we're seeing this periodically in our logs too since going live (it's the only consistent error we seem to be getting). I came here to investigate since I was concerned that perhaps people were trying to break the CAPTCHA, but I don't know what users are seeing on their side. I've never been able to reproduce it locally to troubleshoot what's going on. Sorry I can't provide much more info. I do have the site feedback front and center but no one has complained about any contact form problems yet. Here's what we are getting in our logs:

2010-12-14 14:25:26,779 ERROR mojoPortal.Web.Global - 66.249.67.53-en-US - /CaptchaImage.ashx?spec=uDh8e1aNEZi%2BRFpVlFWTfJyuKmlekrr2FD%2BOvj1JwOskXWp1gVavkqHiAaG09tTa

Re: Captcha Problems

That is web bots, not likely real users, unless you get any real complaints from real users I would treat it as such. I see them in my logs too and it does not trouble me. There are all kinds of things out there manipulating the page and submitting form posts to your site, anything that causes an error logs an error so you can know about it.

Best,

Joe

Re: Captcha Problems

I recommend study code for existing features that use the captcha such as the Contact Form, to see how to configure it from code.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Captcha Problems

I can reproduce this error on my site. It does not seem to be browser specific as I can get it to happen on IE 7, 8, 9 and Firefox 3, 4. It seems to happen at complete random.

Re: Captcha Problems

If you can provide steps to reliably produce the problem I will investigate it as a bug, but if I cannot produce it I cannot investigate it. I know there are bots and things that crawl the web that can produce errors like this in the log, so just seeing it in the log does not concern me or convince me that it happens under normal usage of the site by users.

Best,

Joe

Re: Captcha Problems

I'm leaning on it being some kind of Server configuration issue, though I can't seem to pinpoint what is causing it. I can only reproduce it on certain Win 2K3 servers.

Example:

http://resources.kanguru.com/Secure/Register.aspx (Fails about 1/2 the time)

http://test.kanguru.com/MojoPortal/Secure/Register.aspx (Works every time)

These are both Server 2K3 boxes running IIS6 .net 4

Re: Captcha Problems

maybe if there is a problem like the application is recycling frequently it could cause this kind of error, ie if the page loads in the browser and then the application recycles before the page is submitted it might cause this kind of thing. A low memory environment can make it recycle constantly. So if you are seeing a lot of application start and end events in the log in addition to this error it may be a factor.

Best,

Joe
