Silverlight Slide Show

How do I use silverlight? Besides settings what do I need to do to get images to show up? I read what was said on the blog and it did not help me much. Also I use Picasa more then Flickr? Is it possible to integrate Flickr some time in the future?

Re: Silverlight Slide Show

Hi Thomas,

It may not work if your hosting environment is not configured to support Silverlight.

I have no immediate plans to implement Picassa support but I will keep it in mind.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Silverlight Slide Show

Flickr is now enabled!  To use it, you need to get a Flickr API key.

One problem - the 'view html to embed slideshow...' button reveals this username/key combination to the world, which could get you in some trouble  (a bad person uses your key to do something nefarious).  I wonder if that link can be removed and/or there could be some encryption of that key in the database so it's also not displayed in the source view?

This is exactly what I have been waiting for!!!

Thanks!

Re: Silverlight Slide Show

Hi Mike,

I'm pretty sure this is not an issue as niether the username nor the api key are secret items. If they were then the flickr api would not have us use them as query string params but would make us post them as form params and even this would only be secure using ssl.

For anything other than getting stuff marked as public, ie any commands require that you get what they call a frob from the api and encode it with the secret (which is different than the api key itself), then flickr issues a token to use for api calls.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Ah, missed the part about the secret before.  I can't tell you how happy I am that this is now in place :)

Re: Silverlight Slide Show

Maybe it is me or I am missing something. The Flickr slide show seems to work great in Fire Fox, but I cannot get it to work in IE. At first I thought it was something more general that I was doing until I checked what it was doing in Firefox.

Re: Silverlight Slide Show

I didn't have any trouble with IE, but it did prompt me to update that version of Silverlight.  Try visiting http://silverlight.net/ with IE?

Re: Silverlight Slide Show

I had trouble getting the component to load until I got a Flickr name associated with my flickr account.  Maybe it's the same issue?  Have you tried running other silverlight packages from your site?  Feel free to try my username and api key to see if it's a silverlight or flickr issue:

UserName=jestan_t

ApiKey=a996b33d1b98f433be60cf59603ef566

Re: Silverlight Slide Show

Mike Brake,

Thanks a lot. You were right. your api worked for me. So I went to flickr and created a "set". Now it works.
