About Forums

First of all I have to say thankyou for all the time that you are investing on MojoPortal, and congratulate you for the interesting work done.

I'm using MojoPortal since one week ago. I have miss some functionality that I considere common for a forum:

- Allow access for differents threads depending on the user rol. This can be done creating differents forums groups and allowind the access for the hole forum, anyway.

- I have realised that when you have many Forums open in a Forum Group (in my case the number is 11). It's hard to track the new posts easy. It could be interesting to have an icon that marks in wich Forum there are messeges posted since the last time you access to the Forum. Also maybe could be interesting to be able to sort about the Last Post time and show the user who did the last post, as it happens in the Forum threads.

- Maybe a control to show in the Home page that shows a list of links to the las 10 messages posted in the Forums.

I'd like to know if this things are not done for any reason or just for the time needed to do it. Maybe I'll have to implement then for myself anyway.

Regards, thank you very much for your effor.

Re: About Forums

The only thing preventing the features you mention is time/effort.  In case you didn't know, you can subscribe to forums/threads.  Personally, I find that sufficient keep up-to-date on what's new.

Cheers,

Re: About Forums

Currently the security model is at the page level so you can have role driven forums if you place them on different pages with different view/edit roles.

In the next release there will be RSS available for the forums as well. It is already in svn, all that is left to implement is actually showing the links for RSS feeds in the forums. By using the RSS feature in combination with the RSS aggregator feature it is possible to show say the 10 most recents posts on the home page of a site. You can see this in action on http://www.mono-live.org where Joseph Hill is using the RSS Aggregator on his home page to show the recent posts in his forums. Joseph implemented the RSS feature in the forums recently.

Other than that I am not working on any new features until I finish converting to take advantage of the 2.0 .NET features. In particular I want to convert all the existing mopdules to Web Parts. Once that is done I will pick up again with adding new features and enhancing existing ones
