Custom skin problems on new release

I am using Microsoft Vista and mssql with the latest release of mojoportal. After this last release my Custom skin was not working correctly. I am not sure this will help anyone, but it did work for me. I took my custom skin and dropped into it the layout.Master from the origional I started with for my custom skin. The problem I was having went away and then I went in and made the changes I had made in the layout.Master to put it back the way it was origionally. Be careful of the changes that are made too a layout.Master they can have undesired effects. I tried to be careful to only do the bare necessities in the layout.Master and make most of the changes in CSS.

Re: Custom skin problems on new release

If you upgraded from a version older than 2.2.7.8 then you should see this document about skinning changes.

http://www.mojoportal.com/important-skin-changes.aspx

Probably by getting the layout.master from the original skin you got the new StyleSheetCombiner control (described iun the above document) which is now used in skins.

You should also copy the style.config file from the original skin if your custom skin does not already have it.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Custom skin problems on new release

I upgraded from version -2-2-9-2, that was one of the things that through me. I did not expect any problems with my custom skin. The fix for this was so simple I was shocked. I still do not understand why it did what it did. The pages were there they were just in a jumbled mess.

Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional :)

Re: Custom skin problems on new release

Hi,

I would like to add if someone has similar problem, I've upgraded version 2.2.9.2 to 2.3.0.1
and our custom skins stopped working. I was confused, I saw version 2.2.9.6 had skins security issue fixed,
so at first I guessed some skin files are changed. I tried original skin and it worked. Files were last modified in dec 2008, so files are not problem.
Anyway I decided to copy original skin in similar named folder as our custom skin named "ys testskin 2"
And it didn't worked :)
Then I have figured out, SPACE, it was not problem in previuos version but it looks like it is going to be problem,
so I have just renamed skin name to be without SPACE and it worked.

What I can confirm is that skin names including space woked till 2.2.9.2 version (probably till 2.2.9.5 version - haven't tested it)
but they don't work in 2.3.0.1 version (probably from 2.2.9.6 version - haven't tested it)

Hope this helps to someone :)
G.

Edit: Joe, if this is ok, maybe you should include note about space in skin name in important skin changes?

Re: Custom skin problems on new release

Hi Goran,

At your request I have added a note on this page http://www.mojoportal.com/creatingskins.aspx, indicating not to use spaces or special characters in skin folder names, I also generally recommend don't use spaces in css file names or image names.

I never knew it did work previously with spaces in the names, none of the included skins use spaces so I figured (apparently incorrectly) that people would follow the exsiting pattern.

Best,

Joe
