Unable to login on medium trust with Godaddy

  • This morning I tried to install mojo on Godaddy shared Windows hosting (medium trust). As I see from the setup log installation was successful (refer to the log at the end of this message) and I can see DB tables especially mp_Users with data.
  • I can not login with any users, I created 2 more users. Registration successful, I can not login. Get Login failed error message.
  • I changed the password format to clear and updated the MP-Users table for admin user to have clear admin password new password - surajkodgi). No use.
  • I see some error messages in the currentlog.config as shown at the end of this message.
  • I didn't see '<portal:OpenIDLoginControl id="oidLogin" runat="server"></portal:OpenIDLoginControl' inside /Secure/Login.aspx page as mentioned at the end of http://www.mojoportal.com/mediumtrust.aspx
  • I deleted the DotNetOpenId.dll from Bin.
  • In web.config made EnableOpenIDAuthentication = false and EnableWindowsLiveAuthentication=false
  • Retrieval password returns the correct password to the registered e-mail (for other user I registered as) e-mail: kodgi@yahoo.com
    Password: NewPassword!

Note: Current Admin login details (still doesn't work)

e-mail: admin@admin.com
password: surajkodgi

Any idea, what could be done?

Re: Unable to login on medium trust with Godaddy

It looks like everything went ok with the installation. That error will be logged every time the app starts in medium trust.

If you changed the password format and password in the db, then you need to recycle the app to clear the siteSettings from the cache, otherwise the cahced siteSettings might still be set for hashed passwords.

Have you tried logging in from a different machine or different browser?

It could be some problem setting an authentication cookie. Like if godaddy is making your site inside a frameset wrapper it can prevent setting a cookie, or if you have any kind of privacy software running it could prevent setting a cookie.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Unable to login on medium trust with Godaddy

Hi Joe,

Thanks for the reply.

  • Yes, Installation looks fine, I guess.
  • Recycle the app to clear the siteSettings from the cache: I tried using different browsers and different systems without any luck.
  • No privacy software running
  • It could be some problem setting an authentication cookie, PROBABLY THE REASON: How do I know if godaddy is making your site inside a frameset wrapper it can prevent setting a cookie?

Thanks!

Aruna

Re: Unable to login on medium trust with Godaddy

If you are using GoDaddy domain forwarding with masking it is using a frameset, you don't want to do that. I'm not familiar with all the godaddy features so you may need to check with them whether frames are involved and how to get rid of them. Maybe in their cheapest package they wrap your site in a frameset so they can show adds in another frame.

You can tell if its a frameset by right click the page and if you see frames or framesets in the source. Or if the right click gives an option about view source of this frame its using frames.

All browsers have a security feature which prevents setting cookies across domains so if the inner frame site has a different domain than the outer frame it will not be possible for the site runnning inside the frame to set any cookies.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Unable to login on medium trust with Godaddy

Hi Joe,

  1. We are using ultimate hosting account of godaddy, no frameset/masking.
  2. This particular folder is under few directory levels down..we have 5+ web applications (ASP.NET and PHP) running off of this hosting account.
  3. This particular folder (portal01) was set as it's own application root.
  4. We have different application above this folder like and this portal is not in root of the account as root of the account been occupied by another domain/web application.
  5. The root level web application uses form authentication and defined in it's web.config.
  6. In the above scenarios, do I need to tweak web.config of this portal with respect to form authentication, machine key etc?
  7. I re-installed today (including new database) to ensure no issues in the setup. Setup ran successfully, now all the settings are default (except new machine key I generated) including the login, still I can't login.

http://selectinfotech.com/portals/portal01/

Any further thoughts will be appreciated. Solutions to this problem definately will bring couple of beers to Joe ()

Best Regards,

Aruna

Re: Unable to login on medium trust with Godaddy

The application in the root may be interfering. I might try editing this in the mojoPortal Web.config

<authentication mode="Forms">
<forms name=".mojochangeme" protection="All" timeout="50000000" path="/" cookieless="UseCookies" />
</authentication>

I might experiment with changing the path to /portal01 because I think the / means it wants to be the forms cookie for the root web site.

It could possibly be a problem if they have different machine keys.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Unable to login on medium trust with Godaddy

Hi JOe,

I modified the form authentication section and even configured to use auto machine key , still same issue. The currentlog.config logs following error everytime new request was made on the site. is this something I need to worry about or this is something to do with medium trust (as the log indicates in the line "ERROR mojoPortal.Web.Global - Application_Start Could not register VirtualPathProvider, must be running in Medium trust or lower") and OK to ignore?
