modifying the existing skin

hii joe,

I 'm a newbie for this opensource development. after going through many opensource CMSs available in .NET, I found mojoportal as the best CMS. I have installed it sucessfully and now want to create my own website using mojo. But I'm stucked in the begining itself. I have selected one of the skin provided in mojo n now want to modify it according to the look n feel I want for eg: I want to add a banner just below the default horizontal menu provided for the skin. how to do it. I know that I need to modify the code corresponding to the skin I selected which is located in data/sites/site#/skin folder, but  n how is big ? for me. please provide me the detailed instructions.

Thanks in advance

Priya

Re: modifying the existing skin

Hi Priya,

First thing you should do is copy the skin folder of the skin you are using as a starting point and rename it before you do any customization. Otherwise if you leave it weith its current name it wil be overwritten the next time you upgadre mojoportal and you will lose your customizations. So, its very important to give it a unique name to avoid any conflicts with existing or future skins included in mojoportal.

Next, you should read the documentation about skinning thoroughly.

http://www.mojoportal.com/creatingskins.aspx

Unfortunately I have no step by step instructions for you. Its a trial and error process even for those of us who have a good understanding of HTML and CSS. We make an educated guess about how to change the css to gradually change the look as we want it. Make small changes and refresh the browser to see if it worked. A good understanding of Html and especially CSS helps us understand what to change to achieve the desired affect.

Hope it helps,

Joe

It worked well in the begining but as I continued to add more html tags, website speed became slow n everytime I'm supposed to reopen it again after sometime. Please suggest me.
