After lots of trying this and that I did not come up with an internal solution... what I did come up with is a simple solution that works, even if it is not the best method....

1. Scroll down to article title on the blog page
2. Right click on title and select Copy Shortcut
3. Click on Add Item on list page
4. enter a short title
5. in the URL line press Ctrl + V (the URL to the article is pasted into the line)
6. Press Save

Now when I click on the link the article page is displayed.
