Publish live date

A little feature which might not be too hard to implement and have some good bang for the buck is a "publish live date". This option could be at the page and module level. There would be a little date/time picker where a content admin could set the show live date into the future (an experation date could be useful as well, but leave that one blank or allow for it's removal).

This would allow companies to launch things on certain days or weekends without manual intervention (if they are vacation, busy, etc). It might also be nice to have content expire at certain times (promotion or sale ends, etc).

By default a page/module would have no date or default to the current date/time. An expiration date wouldn't be set by default, no expiration by default.

Just a thought that came from a client request.

Re: Publish live date

We don't currently have this for pages but we do have it for modules. You can create Html Content instnaces for example in Administration > Content Manager and then schedule them to be published on existing pages. So you can at least schedule content changes on existing pages.

I'll log a request in the project tracker to be able to schedule page publishing.

Best,

Joe

Re: Publish live date

I didn't think of the content manager, in a pinch that could indeed work. The whole problem with the content manager is that's it's almost impossible to navigate on large sites. I have a few sites for example with hundreds of pages and more modules than that. It's like finding a needle in a haystack.

A few of the featues like trying to link to an internal page don't work very well on a large sites because of the shear amount of pages to sift through. Trying to find the page to link to in that treeview that's a mile long is a struggle, it would be ideal if these features were not set to display the whole tree by default. I like how when you create a new page (on large sites) you have a "browse" option that then opens a treeview which is collapsed, that makes it much easier to drill down to a page. I don't know if anything like that could be applied to the file manger (it opens to view all child folders), the content manager or when selecting an internal page to link to.

Give me a shout, I may be able to help sponsor some of these enhancements to some extent if they ever bubble up to the surface of the todo list. Thank you!!!
