mojoPortalAdvanced Web Sites Made Easy

Volume 2 Edition 1 January 2010

Happy New Year!

I hope 2010 is off to a good start for all of you. January certainly has been a busy month for me so far. In addition to the new release we made this month I got my book keeping caught up for 2009. I'm always much happier when I'm working on software development and I always kind of dread book keeping so I procrastinated a little but then it was just hanging over my head taking some of the fun out of my work. I was afraid it was going to take a week, but it really only took a few days once I gave it my full attention. So now I'm glad to have it done and can get back to the work I enjoy with a clear conscience.

This is our second newsletter ever so we are still learning as we go.  I'm using a Yahoo business email address to send it and I am curious whether this will work well or whether it may land in the spam box, If any of you do notice this message landing in your spam folder please do let me know.

mojoPortal 2.3.3.4 Released

We released mojoPortal 2.3.3.4, on January 12 and then followed up with a bug fix release 2.3.3.4.b on January 15 which patched a few bugs reported after the initial 2.3.3.4 release. This was a fairly major release with lots of improvements, many of them driven by community feedback in our forums. Highlights include:

  • A Fancy new File Manager
  • Shared File Improvements
  • Blog Improvements
  • Feed Manager Improvements
  • Links feature improved and renamed to Simple List/Links to reflect that it can be used for more than just links
  • A new Query Tool for developers
  • and more..

See the blog post for full details. Part of the reason we so quickly put out the 2.3.3.4.b patched release was because I wanted to submit this version to update our entry in the Windows Web Application Gallery. The version of mojoPortal in the gallery is usually a version or so behind the current release and once I submit a new version there is a process it must go through before it goes live in the gallery. So I waited a little after the 2.3.3.4 release to see if any bugs were reported so I could fix them before submitting to the gallery. The vast majority of our downloads can be attributed to the gallery so the version we have there is very important.

If you are a fan of mojoPortal, it would be a big help if you could give us a favorable review in the Windows Web Application Gallery. Since it is such a big source of downloads for us, reviews there are probably the most helpful, and ratings and reviews on our Codeplex download page are also very helpful for promoting the project. We don't have much of a marketing budget so we really depend on grass roots promotion and your help is greatly appreciated.

There are lots of exciting improvements yet to come. While I am certainly not getting rich yet, I consider myself very fortunate to enjoy my work so much. It seems like I'm always even more excited about what I'm working on next.

Warm Regards,

Joe Audette
