not necessarily an issue with Mojo Portal itself, but with flash embedded within Mojo Portal

This forum is primarily for reporting issues about Web Accessibility such as difficulty using mojoPortal with a screen reader or other assistive technology.

Post any feedback here related to improving the accessibility or usability of mojoPortal. As stated in our Accessibility documentation, it is an important goal of the project that both the front-end customer experience and the back end administration and content publishing features be accessible to as many people as possible. Ideally, if you post about problems, we will also be glad to have suggestions on how the problems can be fixed but all constructive feedback on these issues is welcome.

not necessarily an issue with Mojo Portal itself, but with flash embedded within Mojo Portal

Hello all,

I just noticed this like a moment ago when browsing the site.  Certain videos on here don't want to play when you have screen reader users around.  I just tried one of the installation videos, and it just sat there.  JAWS 12.0 will recognize that there is a flash object on the page with the notation of "flash start" and "flash end", but that is all.  What would help this situation is if the buttons are labeled so as to allow screen readers to recognize them.  I haven't checked any of the other videos, but I'll keep you updated if I see any more.

We are just using the embed code from YouTube to embed the video in our own web page. I'm not sure if there is anything we can do to improve it.

Do you have the same experience with videos directly on the YouTube site? Does the screen reader see the needed buttons on the videos on YouTube site? If it does work better directly on YouTube then there may be something we can do to improve it, but if it works the same there then probably not.

Best,

Joe

Screen readers recognize the flash content on Youtube just fine.  They can't do everything with it simply because the buttons aren't labeled, but they can see enough for the video to play at least.  That's about all I care about.

ok, I'll do some googling and see if there is any way we can modify the embed code to make it a little more friendly.

Best,

Hi again,

I've noticed that this thread hasn't had a hit in a little while, so I figured that I'd check in and see if you needed a hand?  Please let me know, and I'll do what I can.
