Cannot edit content even though the permissions are set.

Recently, downloaded mojo to my windows 7 box and got it running on the local IIS. From the web-site I edited the main page and all was good. I then pushed it up to goDaddy and finally got it working there (or atleast it seems to work ;-) ).   However, when I try to edit the page that I had previously edited on my local machine when it goes to the edit content page no text shows up and there are no editing icons present. I have given that account all permissions I can find both for the site and for that page and still get the same thing. I have got to get this corrected or will be forced to move to another method of doing the web-site.

Re: Cannot edit content even though the permissions are set.

Are you using the pre-compiled deployment package or source code?

Could elaborate on what you did to "push" it to godaddy

You may want to look at this article about moving a site from one machine to another.

If you are working with source code you should see

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Cannot edit content even though the permissions are set.

I downloaded the pre-compiled version. Will deal with the source at a later date.

I used fireftp added to firefox to push up the files. For the database(SQL Server) I used the Database Publishing Wizard.

I'll read your suggestions.

Re: Cannot edit content even though the permissions are set.

I'd recommend using a more robust ftp client like FileZilla, possibly it didn't deploy all the files. With FileZilla you can see transfer errors and retry them.

Re: Cannot edit content even though the permissions are set.

Ok, I'll take a look at filezilla for future use. Thanks!

Joe,

I had a virtual directory on the local machine but also had the same directory structure on goDaddy since I want to not expose it until I was ready...  Deleted the files from Data/Sites/1/systemfiles there was no Data/systemfiles and made sure permissions were right and now I can edit the page!  Thanks for your help and your article!

However, I am going to want to put the site in the root directory (once I get it as I like). Where are all the files that will have to be changed (to get rid of the virtual directory)?

Thanks!

Re: Cannot edit content even though the permissions are set.

Hi,

If you are wanting to switch the site to the root at any point in the future, I highly suggest you do not ever install it in a virtual directory. The reason for my recommendation is that the paths in your links, images and other items that require paths, will not work without directly modifying each one or manually updating every occurrence of the old path in the database. If you install your site in a sub-domain, you will not have these issues when moving the installation to another site's root.

HTH,
Joe D.
