Blog module improvements

Hi Joe, I saw that you have a somewhat generic "blog improvements" on the roadmap, but I wasn't sure if the following were part of this. We, like probably a lot of others, are going to be using the blog module for our news feeds. The following changes would be very helpful to us in this capacity:

  • The ability to specify either an "expiration days" or expiration date for blog postings. Having the expiration days or date on individual posts would be best, but if that won't fly, an overall "max days to display entries" would be helpful (similar to the Feed Manager "Show Posts up to this many days old" setting). Actually, the best solution for us would be an overall setting combined with individual override.
  • Ability to override the date/time for posts (it should of course default to the current date/time). This would be needed when there is a delay in posting a release to the web.
  • Ability to change the format in which the posted date is displayed (e.g. MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI AM)

Thanks again for all your work!

Jamie

Re: Blog module improvements

Hi Jamie,

I've just updated the Road Map with more detail.

Ability to change the format in which the posted date is displayed (e.g. MM/DD/YYYY HH:MI AM)

We already have a setting for Date Format String in setting.

Ability to override the date/time for posts (it should of course default to the current date/time). This would be needed when there is a delay in posting a release to the web.

You can already create drafts with future publish dates or change the publish date.

Best,

Joe

Re: Blog module improvements

Oh wow, thanks Joe. I see from the updated roadmap that you're planning to support more "newslike" use of the blog, and that's great.

Thanks for the tip about the start date field. Just as a suggestion, you may want to change the instructional text next to that field, and change the name of the field from "start date" to "publish date." Since it explicitly says "set a future start date"--I didn't even think to try past dates in it, but of course it does work perfectly for our needs.

As for the date format, I have no excuse but brain fade!

Thanks again,

Jamie
