Noob - existing site into MojoPortal

Hi everyone, I hope you're all well!

I've stumbled across MojoPortal and have dug around in the docs for a while now; so far I love what I see. I'm a middle of the road geek with a fair knowledge of ASP.Net (having built simple sites using it, some writing to databases etc) and am alot stronger at front end web design and CSS etc.

I have a client who wants a quality and easy to use CMS system and I'm considering using Mojo for this. I want to create them their own "theme" or skin I guess you call it here for their company and want to know the most productive way to go about it.

I've read the docs so I'm happy with the theory of it I think but wanted to pick your brains more on past experiences. What's the best way of kicking this off?

I have a .PSD design which I'll slice up and code in XHTML / CSS. Is it worth doing this first, making the layout nice and then bolting on Mojo once I have that?

Does anyone have any tips etc for this? Liek I said it's my first Mojo so I'm expecting it to take me a while! :0)

Thank you in advance.

Re: Noob - existing site into MojoPortal

I would start by copying an existing skin and modifying it. Best to choose a skin that has the layout closest to what you want not based on colors as colors are easier to change.

I don't know of good tips for converting a design from a .psd, I'm really more of a developer than a designer and I think the strategy would vary depending on the .psd

Others may have additional tips for you.

Best,

Joe

Re: Noob - existing site into MojoPortal

Definitely use a mojoPortal skin to start off mainly because there are a lot different features in mojo and you should define a style for these in your skin. With your PSD, the best way I have found is do exactly as you propose and slice it up in PS, make it all work with XHTML/CSS and then add this style to the mojoPortal skin you chose. You will have to merge some of your selectors into existing mojoPortal selectors such as .center-nomargins, .center-leftmargin, etc...

And as always, feel free to ask specific questions here on the forum! We will always try to help.
