Deleting blog entries

Can you help please? I am new to administering a website powered by Mojoportal, at www.essexbiodiversity.org.uk and am having a problem in deleting old items from the News and Events blog page. The edit function for an item displays a panel to edit text and also includes a button to "Delete" the item, but clicking on it merely returns me to the blog page with the item still showing. I have been getting around this by overtyping old messages with new content and saving them, but it would be useful to be able to completely remove items from the page.

Many thanks

Tony Morton

Re: Deleting blog entries

What version of mojoPortal are you running? You can check this by clicking on the Administration icon (looks like a key) and clicking on the System Information menu option.

Re: Deleting blog entries

Hi there Joe, thanks for responding.

The version is 2.2.4.6 MySQL

Sorry for not including that information.

Re: Deleting blog entries

Well, a lot has changed since 2.2.4.6. I would venture to guess that the problem could be fixed by upgrading to the latest mojoPortal release. If that isn't an option for you, check the System Log under Administration for clues as to what could be causing the issue.

Do you know if the blog instance was moved from a different page to its current page? If it was, that could cause some quirkeyness.

Re: Deleting blog entries

Joe Davis is right, if you moved the blog to a different page than it was on originaly it can cause problems.

I would caution you about upgrading because so much has changed. There will be needed changes in your skin. You really should not undertake it yourself but get Harvey Watts involved if you want to upgrade it as he is the one who made the skin and set the site up.

You would also need ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 hosting for the latest version whereas the version you have now only requires 2.0 .NET.

What I would do is check the error log and see if its logging any erors related to this problem. Click the key and then System Log. Newest errors are at the bottom. It might be good to clear the log and then try to delete a blog post and then see what gets logged.

Hope it helps,

Joe

Re: Deleting blog entries

Thank you Joe and Joe,

I know that the website has changed host since it was set up, but I don't think that anyone moved the page within the website structure.

I have cleared the error log and tried deleting another blog entry, and this did not produce an error message in the error log.  I will talk to the owners of the website ( I am just a volunteer keeping the entries up to date) to see if they want to contemplate an upgrade. In the short term I think we will go on editing existing messages in order to keep the blog looking tidy.

Many thanks

Tony
