Mono isn't quite ready yet...

mojoPortal is no longer supported on mono. This forum is here for archival purposes.

Mono isn't quite ready yet...

Well there some little mono quirks that don't show up on my windows test machine.

1. The Publishing features aren't working properly like I mentioned earlier

2. Checkboxes are working with the exception of assigning security roles.  If you check something and save, they go blank again.

The logs don't show any problems, so it has to be on the mono side.  This problem has been reproduced on two servers at two different businesses.

The high load problem seems to only happen on my work's server where we are already running a very old version of mojoPortal which is using dotnet 1.0 instead of 2.0.   When the old mojoPortal and new mojoPortal are run using dotnet 1.0 and 2.0 run concurrently the system load skyrockets.   The system load on my personal linux server isn't experiencing the same problems when only the latest mojoPortal and mono are running.

I have 5 different businesses who asked me to install a portal for them, so I guess they are just going to have to wait a little longer until it matures...

Re: Mono isn't quite ready yet...

I'm not trying to be a pain.   Think of me as 'quality control' reporting the bugs so that others won't tear their hair out in frustration.  I wish I had the time to work on development, but work keeps me very busy as well as my customers outside of work.   I have 6 people who want me to install mojoPortal for them now!   They like what they see.

Another minor glitch is on the Links module.  If you turn on the Show Delete Icon option is shows the X's on each link, but when you click them and say Ok to the popup to delete the link it doesn't delete.  Not a major problem because you can always click the edit pencil instead and press the Delete this Item button instead.

Re: Mono isn't quite ready yet...

As a test I installed version 1.9 mono from rpm and the role checkboxes work properly but obviously the CSS Control Adapters don't.

I then installed mono from svn and the CSS Control Adapters work again and the role checkboxes don't.

I guess I'll be compiling mono everyday until it starts working again!

Re: Mono isn't quite ready yet...

Another glitch that I didn't notice until I started comparing demo.mojoportal.com to my demo mono site.

2nd tier menus don't appear properly.

For example if you make pages on the root called "home, tab1, tab2, tab3" and then added two pages under tab2 called "tab2-1, tab2-2" on a mono system you get a root menu like the following:

"home tab1 tab2 tab2-1 tab2-2 tab3" instead of the tab2-1 tab2-2 menus appearing on the left side when you click tab 2 like you do on Joe's demo site.

I wish mono would catch up soon!  It kind of makes me want to install a windows server....   no not really... I was just out of my mind for a second   ;)

Re: Mono isn't quite ready yet...

Actually I administrate 6 Windows servers already.  The 20 linux servers across the North America that I administrate are less work though...

I'm not a big fan of IIS so I might be installing mojoPortal running Apache on windows until I can switch it to a linux machine...
