Forum/Blog ideas

Forum ideas:

  • Allow anonymous users to subscribe
    - Instead of it subscribing to the logged in users provided e-mail, when they click the 'subscribe' link it would pop up in a colorbox and ask for the e-mail to send subscription notifications to.

  • Allow "subscribe to author"
    - Instead of just subscribing to a thread or forum, allow users to subscribe to the posts author, they would then get notifications anytime that the author posted on the forums.

  • Force subscribe for admin posts
    - Make it so any posts made by administrators are automatically e-mailed to all users. This would definitely need to be a changeable option per-forum, so we could set it to do that in a "Important notifications" forum but not have it do that in a "help" forum, etc.

Blog ideas:

  • Easy post for logged in users
    - When a user is logged in, they shouldn't need to fill out the "name" and "e-mail" inputs before posting a comment. This information should be garnered from their account.

  • Popular posts list/popular categories list
     - Not sure how possible this is, but I'd like to be able to set up a feed based on how many views (or perhaps how many comments) a post gets. Also, I'd like to have a list of "popular categories" above my blog, so it would be nice to set up some kind of server-side thing that keeps track of it.

Otherwise, I'll decide myself and manually add links to those categories, but if it can be done in the CMS I think it would be a nice feature. (Lists like this are commonly found in footers etc).

I hope these ideas are helpful,
-Isaac

Re: Forum/Blog ideas

Sorry, to clarify on the "Easy posts for logged in users" blog idea:

I mean there should be an option to hide those fields completely. An option to disable SPAM blocker for logged in users would be nice too, if it's not already in there somewhere.

Also, the "Remember me?" input seems redundant when logged in.

Thanks,
-Isaac

Re: Forum/Blog ideas

Agreed.  You're so correct about the comments thing.  I would also add an idea for subforums, in other words, have one main forum category, and then sub categories underneath it without having to add a million instances of the forum module under each forum to get the same effect, and not even then, because the effect would not be achieved since one would still have to click onto the category above the added instance if you know what I mean.
