robots "sees" documents

Hi to all

I do have one question related security (2385 asp4 fulltrust sql2008)

if authorized users loads documents in \sites\x\media, and then links them to pages which are for registrated user only, a pdf file or word or so on, it appears to me that spiders like google can see those documents and shows them on internet to all if search criteria matches.

Now it is difficult to replicate it... but it happens...

Is there any parameter that can avoid this ??

thank a lot in advance

Re: robots "sees" documents

Theoretically, if the file is linked only on a secured page, it shouldn't be discovered by bots, but the file is not in a read-protected state and will be served if the path to it is specified. Really there's no guarantee that files under /Data can't be found.

The only way to truly secure files within mojoPortal is to store them within an instance of the Shared Files module.

Re: robots "sees" documents

You'll also want to make sure you don't have directory browsing enabled in IIS. ie if you visit yoursite/Data and it shows a list of files then crawlers can find them easily. Otherwise they are not likely to find them unless they are linked from unprotected pages in your site.

Based on your other posts you may need to double check the page view roles on all the pages in your site that link to such files. Those pages may not appear in the menu because you mentioned top level pages require a role, but that doesn't mean the child pages are protected.

Hope that helps,

Joe
