Provide content to one user only?

we are wanting to use an existing mojo site to make digital products available to clients for download after we have done all the data processing. We are thinking of having a role for the type of client, and making a "Download" page that only they can see. But within that page, we want each client to see only the text and download links relevant to their project.

I was hoping to be able to put HTML content and use the security to limit the ability to view to single users, as you can for edit permissions. But this doesn't appear to be possible (yet...).

I realise I could create a role for each client, but that does not seem elegant and will be more admin work.

Any ideas of a better way of achieving this? (or will we need to fall back to emailing them a direct link to a file). We could of course  write a custom feature, but the volumes are not sufficient to warrant this.

Any chance this could be in a future version (at page and feature level)?

Re: Provide content to one user only?

No replies were forthcoming to this one, but it is becoming more urgent for us... any ideas anyone, or can this be considered a feature request?

In summary, the requirement is to be able to restrict the "View" permissions on a page and/or feature to a specific user (as you can for Edit permissions).

Re: Provide content to one user only?

Sorry but this one is not likely to happen, it would require a lot of changes in the security model in all features. The ability to grant edit permission to an individual user was supplemental so that the user could edit a specific content instance without granting him edit permissions on the page and it was relatively easy to implement.

So yes it may be clumsy to use a role per user if you need to do this for lots of individuals but that is something you could currently do to grant an individual view permission. Or you could write a custom feature to meet your specific needs. If "volumes are not sufficient" then using roles seems reasonable.

Re: Provide content to one user only?

Thanks for considering this one Joe - looks like we'll be using roles then!
