We will also be migrating several other membership websites over to MojoPortal since we can now offer both Authorize.net and PayPal Express. We will post the migrated sites URL's once we've finished migrating them over.

Re: HTML5 File Uploader

Hi Jamie,

The popularity of drag and drop got me thinking of another cool idea. If you use the latest code or the demo site with CKeditor, I've implemented support for dropping images directly into the editor. The only caveat is that the image will always be resized according to the default resize config settings and the image will be uploaded to the root folder where the user is allowed to upload, ie media folder. If one is particular about the resizing or preferred location one can still use the image dialog but it is pretty convenient to drag an image right in.

Of course as with other drag drop stuff it only works in the latest web browsers.

Best,

Re: Sports Tipster Competition

Hi Joe,

I totally understand you would not want to use it, and to be honest, I started the project promising myself I would use it for everything, regardless, to force me to use it.... however, it's a horses for courses thing and it's is awesome for certain things, normally simple things... as I prefer to use the LINQ or if I really have to the QueryOver, but not the HQL syntax. Therefore some of the really deep joined queried I just used good old SP's/Views and ADO :-)

I think with a project the size of the Mojo, if you want to be consistent and have awesome performance pure SQL is your only option. I think a lot of people overlook using a combination of things, a bit like, why would you use httphandlers with pure markup in .NET webforms :-) I guess whatever does the job the best you use, it's never black or white.

If I get the time to do a write up it won't be for a while as my site still needs loads of contents, but I am sure it would be useful as once it's all setup as a module, it just needs an entry in web.config and then will run once at app start (I know you can't do this with modules but their is a code trick) and then you get a session open/close (lightweight) per request and you can either use a global.asax variable which obv breaks my idea or write the NH session to a ASP session value works fine too.

Cheers

Re: Sports Tipster Competition

Hi Joe,

Thanks for taking a look, a lot of the work went into the betting interface and admin interface which you wont see without being registered or admin. I kinda avoided the usual .NET controls in that area and streamed all the markup from httphandlers and use JQuery AJAX/JSON so everything loads cleanly and smoothly.

That reminds me, I don't think I have plugged Mojo anywhere on the site, I will make sure I do this weekend (prob in the footer) as your awesome work/project should be supported and recommended.

One thing you might be interested in is I have successfully integrated NHibernate for most of the DB stuff in my project and managed to get it all plugged in using modules so I don't keep overwriting your global.asax. Anyway, keep up the good work and I hope to be good enough sometime in the future to help out in the Mojo community.

Thanks

Hi Joe,

Firstly I would like to thank you for creating such an awesome CMS and I am so glad you have stuck with using normal C# and .NET Web Controls for extending, rather than implementing a whole new framework/language that I have to learn to do anything!!

I have been using Mojo for a while and have recently moved over to the MySQL version as M$ licensing costs/models are getting ridiculous and it works perfectly too! My site doesn't have all the content moved over yet, but the new version of the competition code is there and is testament to how easy it is to extend Mojo portal with custom panels.

I'll ditto what Jamie has said and add that I have had a lot of success teaching uploads to clients since the new uploader was added. Uploading wasn't difficult with NeatUpload but people would generally get confused when browsing for multiple files. The drag-and-drop ability negates that and it makes it so much easier.

HTML5 File Uploader

Hi Joe, I haven't seen a lot of feedback about this on the forums, maybe because it's relatively new. Today I had to spend some time creating and updating a few Image Gallery instances on our Intranet site, and this was my first chance to do a lot of work with your new HTML5 file uploader that replaced NeatUpload in version 2.3.9.7. Wow, I just wanted to say that this is an excellent addition to mojoPortal. Rather than just a one-for-one replacement of NeatUpload, the new file uploader is a really big upgrade in every way, and after using the drag-and-drop functionality I never want to go back to browsing for files again!

I really like how you turned what was at heart a maintenance chore (replacing an obsolete component of mojoPortal) into a true enhancement for users.

I'll try that my site hasn't befallen their fate. I think that it is very important, for development mojoportal in the 1/6 land territory.

At present, was translate a small part of all articles. I'm try to translate 1-2 articles in day. But usually easier to make sense in English than to translate into Russian. If anyone in this forum has translated articles, or want to help me - welcome.

In any case, thanks a lot Joe for his Great CMS.

Site about Deportation in France during the 1940-1945 war

Hi Joe,

I forgot to mention a new site that I created with mojoPortal in November 2012.
The url is www.memoire-deportation-ain.fr
This site is partially sponsored by the General Council of the Ain.
This site is about the deportation in France in Ain Department during the 1940-1945 war.
It has 50 static pages, 1400 dynamic pages, 600 images, 150 pdf, ...
It has several custom features (link Between SQL and Google Map to show the path of the deportees, list of persons, list of documents, ...)

Actually, 1500 visits/month

You can view the page: La déportation dans l'Ain > Les camps de la mort > Buchenwald.
This page has 3 custom features.

You can view a other page: Rechercher un déporté, then write MORIN in the first Textbox and click on Rechercher par nom.
A list will show the persons with matching name. Click on 'MORIN dit Chr De Gourbe Paul'.
This action opne a page who give all informations about Paul Morin.
You can see his career since his arrest until his release
Below another module displays all documents that match.

Several other modules are used to fill these documents (with the creation of thumbnails).

Thank you to Joe and mojoPortal which allowed me to achieve this historic site.

I placed a link to mojoPortal on the footer.

MojoPortal running on Windows Cloud Servers

I had been looking for a winning combination that would give each of my clients a website that would be stable but quick, easy to maintain and support as well as being straightforward for the client to keep up to date with fresh content. I tested all of the most common CMS packages with different server combinations before coming to the conclusion that the best setup could be achieved using MojoPortal on Windows Cloud Hosting. The release of the Artisteer plugin for MojoPortal really was the icing on the cake. I am now able to design and deploy a website in a relatively short space of time safe in the knowledge that I will have little or no trouble with the operation of the application. Training the client to update their own content is easy and if they are looking to maintain a blog I just set them up with Live Writer and that's it.

My own site can be found at http://www.georgekennedy.co.uk

I agree with Jamie. Thank you Joe for all your creativity and hard work on this. You make websites happen!

Just like Jamie, I've developed highly scalable apps on top of MojoPortal with custom features and modules around it. ivb7.com is a living example which runs on a custom built private CDN for streaming videos and serving MojoPortal sites hosted across various datacenters around the globe. Hundreds of customers are currently using it.

Plus I have a few enterprise level large scale applications coming up on MojoPortal and I'm hoping MojoPortal makes it to the enterprise too. We're with you to make this happen Joe!

Milestones reached

I happened to notice today that I just made my 1,000th post in the mojoPortal community. Next month is also the 2-year anniversary of our city government adopting mojoPortal as our CMS of choice. In that time we've grown to nine sites with tens of thousands of pages, and custom features ranging from land parcel lookup to online utility bill payments.

I just wanted to drop a quick note and again thank Joe Audette for his tireless work on this great product. Any time I get a request for development to extend our sites, I know I will be able to build what we need with a minimum of fuss, and he's here providing support on the forum so often I sometimes wonder if he takes any days off at all!

Big thanks too to Joe Davis, Kerry Doan, Asad, Samarian, and all the other community members who are providing support and working together to make mojoPortal the hands-down best open source CMS choice for the Microsoft ecosystem!

Re: promoting mojoportal

Hi Ramesh,

1. Nonsense. Having the code does not make it possible to steal your data as long as you install it and configure security according to best practices. Open source means lots of eyes are looking at the code and if they see any mistakes that could be vulnerabilities they report them. Obscurity does not make security.

2. mojoPortal is not software for social networking sites it is for business sites, see the section at the bottom of the About page which describes what mojoPortal is not designed for. If you want features like that you could build them yourself.

3. You can add custom fields to the registration page and user profile, see the documentation.

4. Create a css file for your custom feature, put it in the skin folder and add it to the list of css files in the style.config file in your skin folder.

5. Nope there isn't, maybe you can build that if you need it but it is not in the box.

6. Each CMS platform has their own requirements for skins, some CMS platforms are more popular and therefore lots of 3rd party skins. We are not there yet, but it is very easy to make skins using Artisteer. Usually for any important site you want a custom skin not a design that other sites may also be using. Any worthwhile site should have its own unique design.

7. Not true, if you're doing that you're doing it wrong. Just upload the new files on top of the old files and then visit the /Setup/Default.aspx page. It will only overwrite mojoPortal system files, it will not touch any custom images or other files you have uploaded. You should not fork the mojoPortal code or modify existing mojoPortal files that way there is no risk in upgrading.

8. Yes, your site looks kind of boring because you are using an old skin that shipped in older versions of mojoPortal and it looks old school and out dated. You really need to make a fresh design to make your site look good. A reminder service is an interesting idea but its not easy to compete with other things that already exist such as google calendar and others, if you search google for "reminder service" you can see there is already a lot of them.Â

Hope that helps,

promoting mojoportal

Hi,

My name is Ramesh Menta. I have been using mojo portal since Feb'12.
Mojo source code is very help to those who wants to build websites with latest technology and all latest features with no/low developing knowledge.
Thanks for this free source code.

Since I like it, I have been promoting this in my way with my colougues and friends however I have been facing following counter arguments where I am unable to answer.
1.	Security questions: Such as data security against world, as the mojo code and procedures are common to all so any person can easily grab the data and physical customized files other than built in.
2.	Personal pages: No feature is available to display data by logged in user. Ex: Google Calender, Personal diary, Personal note books etc
3.	Registration: Currently mojo users are not able to add/remove coloumns from registration page. Ex: Asking mobile number etc
4.	CSS: Many of friends raised questions on CSS code for their own customized modules.
5.	Excel to DB: There is no scope to upload data from an excel file to shared hosting databases.
6.	Skins: It does not support skins that available in the open market source. It is required to buy from mojo patner companies.
7.	Upgrade: Even while upgrading mojo site, it requires to delete wwwroot folder and copy it from mojoportal or codeplex dump that takes risk in loosing of some data such as users avatars, customized ascx files and other such important data.
8.	And etc..

I am having a website that has many own customized modules at www.makeareminder.com but no CSS styles. And even I am also facing few of them.

I do not have answers to those questins.

Also I would like to do specalizaton in developing the websites with mojoportal open source code. Kindly suggest.

I had always thought it was something to do with my own change to the site skin and I had introduced an error of some kind.

But the problem seems to be much deeper, because if I switch to other skins the gallery is still broken, thought this might be because the .css files are cached.Â

I'll look into this further.

But I notice that the nice icon style approach to the layout of the Administration menu doesn't work either, so this must be related to a .css error I have.Â

Hi Joe

My name is Mike, I'm the web applications developer at the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST for short). We've been using MojoPortal at POST for over a year now. We recently bought and implemented a mobile site using your Mobile Kit Pro. Prior to this I had hand coded a JqueryMobile/HTML version of our mobile site with a small subset of the pages available on the full site. With MobileKitPro we now allow our users to access all the pages available on the main site on mobile devices. Over the past year and a half we have created custom modules for MojoPortal, I was very impressed that most of these modules worked with the new mobile site without much tweaking.

Thanks so much for your hard work on MobileKitPro.

You're welcome to come check out our site on your Android/iPhone at http://post.ca.gov

Re: new website with mojoportal and Artisteer

Hey Joe,

This is awesome work... I just found mojoPortal and am having a blast... and plan to move most of my clients to it over time. Just bought Artisteer (using your link), and beers and/or modules are forthcoming. :)

I stumbled across an issue using the latest Artisteer in customizing a skin. The issue is that the SKIN property ContainerCssClass in the PageMenu skin was being ignored in the mojoPortal.Web.TreeViewAdapter.RenderBeginTag method. When I modified your hard-coded tag... it fixed the issue. It almost looks like you had it intentionally hard-coded to prevent some other issue somewhere... so please let me know if I'm missed something! If it's not actually a bug... I don't want to end up with forked code.

Thanks!

Andrew

The code from ~\mojoPortal\Web\Controls\Adapters\TreeViewAdapter.cs. My change is commented about 9 lines into the method:

       protected override void RenderBeginTag(HtmlTextWriter writer)
{
if (Extender.AdapterEnabled)
{
switch(extraMarkupMode)
{
case "Artisteer":

// 2012.01.15 - Hauchmahler modified; CSS Class was hard-coded... so SKIN property wasn't being applied.
//Extender.RenderBeginTag(writer, containerElement, "art-vmenublock");
Extender.RenderBeginTag(writer, containerElement, containerCssClass);

if (!suppressCornerDivs)
{
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-tl\"></div>");
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-tr\"></div>");
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-bl\"></div>");
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-br\"></div>");
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-tc\"></div>");
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-bc\"></div>");
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-cl\"></div>");
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-cr\"></div>");
writer.Write("<div class=\"art-vmenublock-cc\"></div>");
}

Re: Please post some sites for goverment here

Okay, that makes sense. I guess it depends on the definition of that audit trail, then. We aren't required to keep one ourselves, but we did turn on Content Version History for HTML features, and enforced it for all sites. In our case this was to give us an "undo" capability in case of an editing mistake. But if you did that, then at least for HTML changes you could write a SQL query to generate a list of all the edits made within a time frame. I believe Joe has it on his to-do list to expand the number of features that support content versioning (blog entries would be an obvious candidate, for instance), but I don't know where that stands in the development queue.

I hope that helps.

Hi Jemie,

tried to find how it is correctly called in english - best i could find is "Audit trail" in wikipedia. so they want the website to have this audit trail. Right now i'm thinking that we could make some additional trace on DLL or BLL.. do not know. Also they want ability to rollback any editing action if needed - this is more complicated.

Hi,

now i'm having interesting issue - portal needs access protocol. thinking about simpliest way - make some small custom parsing of IIS logs to filter out logged in users and their activity (mean editors etc.)  actually regualtory documents require log and possibility to rollback any change.  So any advice will be greatly appreciated .  So in my case requirements are too paranoid for simple presentation website, but i doubt that i will be able to change requirements easier (this why good list of example sites would help) than trying to follow them as is, or  at least try to make maximum approach.

Re: Please post some sites for goverment here

Okay, I see what you're saying. Luckily, our project was sort of a "bottom up" implementation. What I mean by that is we had a number of HTML sites that were functioning to everyone's satisfaction, but in the IT department we wanted to modernize our sites and decentralize some of the tedious editing chores. We had no budget for a project, so I went through and evaluated a good 6-8 open source project and mojoPortal won by a mile. We demoed our new site to department heads and the City Council, and they loved it, so it was full steam ahead after that.

I agree it can be difficult to get buy-in from decision makers who are already convinced that another solution is the better one, but I'm sure if you prepare a cost benefit analysis, and demo how easy mojoPortal is to maintain and operate, you'll be able to get people onto your side.

I don't know what specific security requirements you have, but I've always been very impressed by mojoPortal's security structure. In fact, I'd say that it's been designed with security as the topmost concern, and potentially useful features have been rejected by Joe because they might compromise security. I mean things like the ability to edit the config files for the site, through an interface within the site.

Re: Please post some sites for goverment here

Thank you.Â

in our country  we have strange regulation about government sites - thay should have differrent security features... People here are starting to ask what is mojoportal, how secure it is, who uses it etc. Having good list of different goverment sites would be good to spread it for such organizations. Anyway it is our taxes thay pay for commercial websites why not use opensource and save our money. But persuade someone here is too hard also there is a big lobby to provide VERY expensive solutions for such government controlled websites.

Hi Victor, I'm a systems analyst with the City of Escondido, California, and the primary technical support person for our web sites. We are included in the first of the links you posted, but a more comprehensive list of our sites can be found in my own success stories thread. I'm not sure I agree that government is completely different than the private sector--we have many of the same user experience concerns (both internal and external), but I suppose one place we (happily) differ is that we have very little of the SEO concerns that plague commercial sites.

I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have about our sites and implementation.

The goverment and related entities are very special case and i think it will  be good to have a list of successfull implementations here.

Those who did it know all complications to deal with goverment....Â

Nice professional looking site, Bill. If I can make a suggestion, I noticed that there are a mixture of links, pointing to either www.machias.org or www.machiascommunitychurch.com. These sites appear to be the same, and assuming they are, for SEO and user interface consistency I'd recommend you pick and set up a preferred host name for the site. You can read more about this in the Forcing a Preferred Host document.

Great looking / functioning church / podcast site on MojoPortal!

Machias Community Church (http://www.machias.org), associated with Village Missions required a frequently updated Web site which is easy to maintain. A fully-customizable presentation was strongly desired.

Prior development team expertise and satisfaction with mojoPortal made the platform decision a no-brainer.

The site has a daily updating photo blog (http://www.machias.org/pastor.aspx)Â maintained by the Pastor (Ron Sallee) as well as a weekly MP3 podcast series of sermons which are prominantly featured on the home page (http://www.machias.org/).
